Ever wondered which pro tennis players have the most followers on social media?

Wonder no more because the results are in and it’s game, set and match Nadal. When it comes to Facebook and Twitter, Rafa has one up on his great rival Roger Federer who came in at number two.

The most followed ladies competitor is world number two Maria Sharapova; in fact neither men’s number one Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams, the highest ranked female player, made the top three.

The official world rankings seem to have no bearing on social media popularity, with Victoria Azarenka only ranking at #38 in the women’s table but sneaking into the top ten in our league table, with well over a million Facebook fans.

Ana Ivanovic would have ranked much higher on our table but her near three million Facebook fans hasn’t translated into a similar popularity on Twitter, where she has just 457,000 followers. Simona Halep also needs to work on her Twitter output, as her one million-plus Facebook fans aren’t making the leap to her Twitter profile which has just 11,300 likes. British number one Andy Murray strikes a better balance, with just under three million followers on each platform.

So with the chasing pack struggling to keep up, Nadal claims another title. Here’s the full top 20, with links to all players’ profiles for you to follow.
