The Canadians are coming!
Could there be Canadian winners of both the men’s and women’s Wimbledon singles titles in the same year? It’s possible some time soon. Raonic and Bouchard. Wimbledon champions. Just imagine it!
In the doubles, Canadian glory is already a reality. Daniel Nestor won the Wimbledon men’s doubles in 2008 and 2009 and the mixed doubles in 2013.
Whisper it softly, but there’s a bit of a love affair going on between Wimbledon and Canada. Look what happened in the Wimbledon boys’ singles final in 2016! Canada’s Denis Shapovalov came from behind to beat Australia’s Alex De Minaur 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
The 17-year-old Shapovalov seemed to love every moment of raising the trophy in the Royal Box on Centre Court. He concluded, ‘As you can see, Canadian tennis is moving forward a lot.’
No one can argue with that! Want to be part of the super-cool Canadian vibe at Wimbledon? There’s never been a better time.
