Murray vs Krygios a special court-side review

Wimbledon

June 20, 2018

Murray vs Krygios at The Queen’s Club Fever Tree Championships, Court-Side Review Tuesday 19 June.

We are very excited to share a special court-side review of Murray’s latest match by Katrina Allen; Former world number 1 at Real Tennis and competitor at Junior Wimbledon and overseas tournaments. Ms Allen also provided us with the photo.

Andy Murray has been out of the game since he lost to Sam Querrey in the quarters at Wimbledon last year. After hip surgery in January, Murray has been trying to get back to form in time for the grass court season.

There were big questions at Queen’s in Murray’s much-anticipated comeback match against the 23 yr old Nick Krygios.

In the event, Krygios’s power and ability to mix his shots eventually proved to be too much for the Scot.

The first set was rather strange, Krygios giving it away with two wild double faults. The second was taken by Krygios in a close tie break and the Aussie finally won the tight match 7-5 in the final set.

It’s not a negative that Murray lost early on in this tournament, as it will give him time to recover from a tough first outing and prepare for Wimbledon.

With his lack of match practice, he is highly unlikely to win the Wimbledon Championships but he could well go far in the draw. Murray may be back and seemingly not that far off his best.

Kyrgios has incredible power and talent, but he has frequent lapses and he often loses matches as a result. If he were able to concentrate sufficiently throughout a two-week Grand Slam tournament, there is no doubt he has the ability to be a serious contender.

With all his power and variety, his game is well-suited to grass. Could he win Wimbledon this year? Will he knuckle down? It would be great to see him come of age.
