Nishikori Forced To Withdraw

Locker Room

July 1, 2015

Kei Nishikori has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon due to a calf injury.

The news will bring great sadness to his legion of fans worldwide, particularly in Asia and his home country of Japan.

Wimbledon’s fifth seed needed five sets to overcome Italy’s Simone Bolelli in the first round, a battle that appears to have taken its toll.

Nishikori’s fearless brand of tennis has made him friends all over the world – and Wimbledon fans were looking forward to seeing him mount a serious challenge for the title this year.

There can be no doubt that, had Nishikori been able to continue in the tournament, he would have done so.

But calf injuries are notoriously difficult to shake off once they set in, and Kei is doubtless making the right decision if he wants to prepare properly for the US Open.

We wish him all the best for a speedy recovery and hope to see Nishikori fighting fit as soon as possible.
