Thiem v Felix: Prepare For Fireworks!

US Open

September 6, 2020

Dominic Thiem will need all his brilliance to tame Felix Auger-Aliassime in New York.

The young Canadian is absolutely rampant at Flushing Meadows so far. Thiem is looking no less impressive.

What a match-up! What a delicious US Open this is turning into!

It just makes us look forward to Wimbledon 2021 even more!

New stars to admire. Established heroes hoping for a first Slam.

The sooner this amazing road-show comes to Wimbledon, the better. We can’t wait for next June and July!

Will Thiem arrive at the All England Club with a Slam already under his belt?

If anyone deserves his first major, it is Dominic Thiem.

He has entertained us and come so close in the past, only to be thwarted by the great Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam showpiece.

This time there is no Nadal, while Djokovic has now been removed from the equation.

Daniil Medvedev, last year’s US Open finalist, is many people’s pick after Novak’s disqualification.

Don’t rule Thiem out, though.

He just knocked out a past US Open champion in Marin Cilic.

It wasn’t a perfect performance. But Thiem still looked hugely impressive during his 6-2, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over the tall Croatian.

Domi has just celebrated his 27th birthday. The man is in his prime and ready to shine.

But he is also sure to feel the explosive force of the next big thing in tennis – Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The 20-year-old Canadian has left observers open-mouthed and full of wonder at Flushing Meadows.

We all knew young Felix was good. Maybe we didn’t know just how good!

He blew away Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-0, 6-4 in his last match. Although the Frenchman salvaged some pride in the third, he was never realistically in contention.

We’re not saying Felix can do that to Thiem. But at the very least he will give the Austrian an almighty scare.

And if Domi isn’t playing his very best tennis, there could be a shock on the cards.

Expect these two highly entertaining players to go at it, toe-to-toe, from the very first point.

They have fire in the belly, enduring fitness and sizzling strokeplay. Both men have the all-round game of a future champion.

The whip on that Felix forehand is something to behold. Auger-Aliassime’s agility is also extraordinary.

Yet Thiem will surely prove a formidable foe.

It all makes for one of the most glorious showdowns of the 2020 US Open.

Let’s enjoy every moment of this guaranteed firework display.

Let’s watch our new favourites grow into superstars.

By the time Wimbledon 2021 comes around, tennis will be richer in sheer talent than ever before.
